Thanks for posting the roundup schedule. It must be taken very seriously as long as BLM is still in this destructive mode. But lets keep at this and change the fate of the wild ones… mar

JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING TO ADD TO THE CALICO COMPLEX SLATED ROUND-UP. THESE TWO ADDRESSES WERE SUGGESTED ON ANOTHER WEBSITE. FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN DRAWING TOURISTS INTO NEVADA:

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION & VISITOR AUTHORITY
    3150 PARADISE ROAD
    LAS VEGAS, NV 89109
    (702) 892-0711

    NEVADA COMMISSION ON TOURISM
    401 NORTH CARSON ST
    CARSON CITY, NV 89701
    (800) 638-2328

THESE ROUND-UPS GIVE NEVADA A BAD IMAGE AND THAT DOESN’T PROMOTE TOURISM. WILD HORSES ARE A WONDERFUL TOURIST ATTRACTION. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THESE PEOPLE BE NOTIFIED OF ANY ROUND-UPS SO THAT THEY CAN ALSO COMMENT.

Here’s a way to hit closer to home–the Reno/Sparks tourism economy. Write and/or email the Reno/Sparks Chamber of Commerce, CEO Doug Kurkul and his management team. Reno is the closest city to the Calico Complex.
      1 East 1st Street, 16th Floor, Reno, NV 89501
      http://www.reno-sparkschamber.org/contact.htm

Also, write and/or email the president of the Nevada Hotel Lodging Association, Van Heffner. His mailing address is 2820 W. Charleston Blvd. Suite 41, Las Vegas, Nevada 89102-1935. Fax: 702-878-5009.
      Email: vanheffner@nvhospitality.com

I did this during the Pryor Roundup. Billings is a smaller town, and I contacted the owners of the major hotels in Billings, as well as the State Montana Hotel Association and the Billings Chamber. Don’t know how much impact this can have, but pressure from all sides can’t hurt. Business leaders need to know about the national scope of negative publicity of the Calico Complex for their area’s tourism.

Stressing Wild Horse tourism is a great idea–will email these people concerning this.
On a different note I just sent Tom Gorey(appropiate last name) an email asking where the comments that were made at the September BLM Advisory meeting in Arlington Va, are posted. So much for BLM transparency. Will see if I get a response?

A SPOKESPERSON FROM THE CLOUD FOUNDATION COULD CALL–WHOEVER IS THE BEST AT PUBLIC SPEAKING.

TIME IS SHORT–IS THE LAST DATE TO COMMENT NOV 22?

As a Horse Advocate and social worker I must stand up and speak for those who can’t speak for themselves. The wild horse is not an underdog but a wonderful creation of the SOURCE and needs to be preserved and treated in a humane and caring fashion. Not trashed, tortured and ignored, nor their advocates. I get why folks like cattle and like to shoot defenseless animals for pleasure and food. I don’t get why government cannot recognize scientist, DNA and outside unbiased research that wild horses have an ancient bond with the dawn horses and early man.
I speak for our American Wild horses ~ Must ages are our National Treasure to ROAM in freedom as a symbol of our freedom for man/animal to conserve of our natural beauty and ethical values of altruistic love. Equines in natures glory is our birth right as an act of conservation and caring.
I support views of Dr Patricia Haight, Karen Sussman, John Muir and President Teddy Roosevelt, Velma Johnson and PBS and Executive Director of the Cloud Foundation, as well as Ginger Kathrens views as my views for these pristine centurions.
I will continue to assist this Wild Horse and speak of Wild Horses as companions, history and an ancient bond to our spirits of unconditional love and vi-versa. Will man break their ancient bond with history ~ time will only tell. I truly hope NOT! We are a chain of life and after all the large mammals are gone our destruction will be next in line.
I don’t understand why we always abuse/neglect and torture wild horses, and re-locate them. We (as humans) do this to anything we hold near and love and later build a fake statue to an old memory. We don’t want to kill the spirit of the Western beauty by kicking them in the backend, neglecting, damaging and destroying our companion that carried and built our lives, families and struggle to a country through courage. Our Wild Horses are just to be looked at. They uphold as a value being in our trust, recognized for courage, pride. We will allow an animal to set the pace for ethical values rather humans our weaknesses destruction and greed. I say stand up for friends, Stand up to acknowledge, Wild Horses are not hobby horses to be tossed in a cart when done playing. Neglecting, damaging and destroying our companion who carried us on their strength, no these friends deserve the best treatment. I say stand up for friend, Stand up now and I’m not going to sit down until our message is heard.
If we destroy the horses we are the next large mammal in the food chain , our we next? Let’s not shot our chain of life in the heads or the foot. Sterilizing love is no way to keep Wild horses a species alive but only to manage them into Extinction. We will lose as to loss apart of ourselves we can even buy back. They will be long GONE. We are all connected in the chain of life ~ if harm Wild horses we simple also harm ourselves.
We need to do better than this.
    Barbara Ellen Ries

TO: President Barack Obama Fall 2009

We, the undersigned, ask you to stop the capture and removal of wild horses and burros from their legally-designated native lands in our 11 Western states. We do not want a small group of sterilized herds moved to the East and Mid-West to represent our wild herds, the herds that worked alongside us to build our West. We support the ROAM Act which would protect the herds and restore the legal lands given to them in 1971’s Wild and Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act since taken away by the Bureau of Land Management.

Our western public lands are over run with 4 Million cattle. Secretary Salazar has a conflict of interest. As a Senator, Salazar voted to put downed (diseased) animals in Americans food supply. Removing the wild horses only to increase the cattle is the special interest’s answer.
The peoples answer is the use of immune contraceptive PZP on the few remaining wild horses (by dart from helicopters) and stop breeding millions of cattle which produce 18% of global warming per the UN. Cattle have no upper front teeth and pull the flora out with their tongues often by the roots. They are non-native species and evolved entirely in Asia, Horses are true top down grazers which increase bio-diversity and are a native species. The BLM has mis-used this science in favor of 4 million cattle over less than 30 thousand wild horses remaining that have the legal right to roam our public lands.

Secretary Salazar as Senator has already earned the title of Slaughter Czar. One of only 4 Democratic Senators to earn a zero HSUS animal score multiple years and during the 110th Congress. Let’s face it, even our National Health Care Costs for cancer, heart disease, and many obesity related diseases could be decreased very simply by dealing with this special interest’s hold on our government, once and for all. BEEF, it’s what’s killing our nations people and wild life.
I’m not satisfied with the winter round up injuring and making their capture only a reason when damaged to send to slaughter one destruction due to injury.
