Tuscarora Roundup delayed until July 9

BLM Tuscarora Wild Horse Gather to Begin July 9 delayed from planned start of July 1. Please call for a stop to this 21 day roundup!

BLM considers foaling season to end June 30th but going against their own recommendations, the Tuscarora Helicopter Roundup is planned to begin on July 1st in the summer Nevada heat where temperatures often exceed 100 deg. F. Over 1400 wild horses and their young foals are planned to be run into traps and a thousand or more removed.  A recent flyover of the area revealed only 310 horses but 10x as many cattle. The BLM aims to manage this 750 square mile area for over 4,000 head livestock while allowing only 440 mustangs. Please call on your Senators to ask Senator Reid of Nevada to stop the Tuscarora roundup.

There simply aren’t that many horses out there; why did they postpone it a week? what difference is that going to make?

  2. Marilyn Wargo Says:

We are being led along a little merry chase. Is it really postponed or will they be playing musical horses?? Having been through this area and wondered where the horses were hiding from the cattle ranchers and the open pit mines all over, my guess is that most of the horses have gone off the HMAs and are the 425 included to be removed. BLM has listed Owyhee, Rock Creek and Little Humboldt separately and together and now as Tuscarora. Some sleight of hand?? hmmmm?

  3. Marilyn Wargo Says:

I have to wonder where some of these horses will be found. Maybe from West Wendover? The feral and estray but really wild horses??? mar

  4. Janet Ferguson Says:

I was reading the 1971 Act as amended posted at The Cloud Foundation website and it seems to say that only unbranded horses are “wild” under the Act.

The more they brand–the fewer fall under the protection of the Act.
Does this mean that once branded, they can never be returned to public lands? (As protected wild horses)

  5. Lisa LeBlanc Says:

hey – how do we a comment moderated?

    Of a related subject:

My weekly visit to bring carrots to the captured mustangs being held at the Palamino BLM gulog north of Reno has come to an abrupt end, the horses are all gone. They had been reducing them all spring and today except for a few mules they were all gone. Only last week their were still a hundred or so, many mares and young foals. A woman at the grocery store told me the BLM told her they were being moved to another site to get vaccinated and something to do with their hooves and then they would be returned. That made no sense to me at all. Does anyone know what they’ve done with these terribly unfortunate horses?

    Thanks,

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Michael, I have just spoken with John Neil at Palomino Valley Center and he said that the hoof care was done last week. That the horses are actually gone to Fallon and/or on to adoptions. The 100 or so Calico horses up for adoption are still at Palomino Valley. Although an woman had said, initially, that the horses were having vaccinations, John Neil said ‘no, they were moved to Fallon’ or to other facilities.

Tis is what will be happening. Horses being transported for adoption and maybe to other holding facilities. The Calico Stallions are still there, tho’, along with others that were brought from Fallon in May when I was out there.

They are making room for other horses that will be coming through the adoption pipeline. Fallon is doing the same. mar

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

When I say ‘Fallon’ I Do mean Broken Arrow. These horses are not going to sale but are still under BLM care and mostly are in the adoption pipeline. This is what happens when they are moving horses; to make room for more new ones and to take to adoption centers.

Please do not panic over this. We knew horses were to moved to new adoptions sites. We have been told some were taken to Broken Arrow. The Calico horses at PVC are all still at PVC. mar

  7. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

Michael, post this on all af the blogroll sites–get this out to everyone that you can–ALL POINTS BULLETIN

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Louie, We do not want to panic people. Michael should have asked what was going on. It has been posted that Palomino Valley horses would be transported out to new adoption sites. This was expected.

Horses at Palomino Valley Center have been transported on to new adoption sites and some have been taken to Broken Arrow in Fallon. The Calico horses brought to PVC for the online adoption are still at PVC. mar

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Louie, please take the information to any sites you have taken Michael’s post and tell them everything is OK…. This is causing a panic. mar

  8. Michael J Ahles Says:

Perhaps if you would be so kind Louie, you could help me in this regard.

PS: There has always been a sickening feeling out there, and now that the horses are gone, the feeling was even worse.
    How terrible mankind truly is.

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Michael, Although ypur information is really welcome you should have asked what was going on at PVC before you posted this. People are not always aware of what the Plans are even if they have been posted. BLM was going to be transporting many horses and that was what happened. This has been posted at blogs.

People nearby are going out to PVC to see what the story is. mar

  9. Barbre Brunson Says:

The BLM claims chasing horses with helicopters is safe–there is proof from the many injured horses and foals-that is not the case. Yet—they continue. Sure don’t see public land ranchers chasing cattle with helicopters! I don’t believe the BLM numbers. Our protests are being ignored. I have been a silent government employee for many years, sending money to wild horse groups, but still keeping faith that the right thing would be done. The facts have destroyed my rose-colored glasses and if I ever want to see wild horses remain in my beloved Nevada, I will sign petitions and write and call all my bosses. I don’t believe the BLM has any regard for the Wild Horses and Burros Act. My horror of the treatment of wild horses began with the movie the Misfits—-there have certainly been improvements since that brutal period of our history….but the cattle industry, not grateful for the public grazing rights–claim they are losing money because of the horses. It is a claim they should be ashamed of making. I pay taxes and want the wild horses left to roam free on our public lands.

  10. Michael J Ahles Says:

Thanks for checking into it Marilyn but
You don’t believe what the BLM tells you, do you?
I don’t asked them anything anymore because they lied to me the very first and only time I spoke to them.
I try not to make the same mistake twice.
I think it wise to pass that along too.
    Thanks again,

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Michael, No, I do not believe all that BLM tells me and I know that one can be told something by one person and something else by another. We just need to be careful and factual concerning the activities of BLM and the wild horses. I do not think John Neil was going to lie to me as I have been to Palomino Valley Center at a time when there were many blog postings about the handling of stallions there this spring. He and Dean Bolstadt were involved in clearing up some problems and handling the people who had brought it to their attention. I do know what can happen with misinformation from either side of this issue. It is understandable what you feel. Many people are very upset with the situation with the Calico horses, the gelding of older stallions and the movement of these horses across country to adoption centers. But that is what is going on. If there is more to it than that we will be attempting to find out all we can. mar

  11. Michael J Ahles Says:

The fact is: much like the Jews that disappeared in WW2 from Hitlers concentration camps, the horses have disappeared from the BLM’s Palamino concentration camp.
And as far as asking those in charge of such inhamanities where the horses have gone, I again find that direction incorrect at best.
    Thanks again for trying,

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Michael, people are at Palomino Valley Center by now, entirely upon what you have said. Otherwise, we all knew the horses would be transported out eventually. It was no secret. people have acted on what you said. Do not be surprised how far this has gone… mar

  12. Michael J Ahles Says:

Cool! I hope Obama comes out to Palamino Gulog to see what his horse erradication department is doing.
Some how I don’t think he’d be suprised.
    Thanks again.

Please consider; When people misinterpret or act out when they do not have the facts it reflects on all of us. If one of us is unsure about something it is best to tell someone knowledgeable off the blogs and get an opinion first. There are people who would answer you if you came to them with this news. Their concern being we keep our integrity. Speculation and distrust of BLM are always acceptable. I know you meant to simply inform people. Yet it may have gone in a direction you didn’t intend. mar

  13. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

MICHAEL, LET ME KNOW WHERE ELSE YOU POSTED AND I WILL FOLLOW UP WITH WHAT MAR HAS FOUND OUT. IT IS GOOD THAT YOU HAVE KEPT A CHECK ON THEM. IF IT WASN’T FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU KEEPING WATCH, NO ONE WOULD KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM. YOU CAN PROBABLY ALWAYS CONTACT MAR AT HERD WATCH.

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

It would be preferable that anyone contact someone they know by phone. Call the Cloud Foundation. If it is important, and I think this is, it just was expected. It all happened at a very strange moment. mar

  14. Michael J Ahles Says:

    Dear Louie,

My wonderful friends the once wild and free mustangs being so wrongfully and inhumanely held at the Palamino BLM Gulog have been taken away, they are gone. That is fact. And this blog site is the only place I have shared this news. Feel free to post it at your will.

MICHAEL, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME WAVE LENGTH HERE. THERE IS A GROWING ARMY OF FOLKS THAT FEEL JUST AS YOU DO AND THEY ARE WORKING 24/7 TO HELP THOSE ANIMALS. YOUR RED ALERT WAS IMMEDIATELY CHECKED OUT.

MICHAEL, CLICK ONTO THE BLOGROLL ON THE UPPER RIGHT-HAND SIDE HERE–“STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE’S HEART” BY R.T. FITCH AND GO TO THE JUNE 6 POST. THIS STORY IS A GOOD STORY AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE OUT THERE IN THE TRENCHES, DOING ALL THAT THEY CAN. RICHARD COUTO CAME ONTO THE BLOG THERE AND WAS SAYING THAT HE WAS GLAD TO FIND KINDRED SPIRITS–HE FEELS VERY ALONE IN THE WORK THAT HE DOES.

And Then a Hero Came Along

Rescued Freedom’s Flight and Richard “Kudo” Couto
His nickname is “Kudo”, his real name Richard Couto. His self made occupation, hero for the animals. Perhaps you have heard of him already. I had been following his progress for months and noticed he got quite a bit done in short periods of time. The CNN segments kept coming on his ARM (Animal Recovery Mission) website. I invited myself for a visit to see about the illegal horse slaughter business in Florida and how he was single-handedly combating it.

As a matter of fact, donate now.

      What goes around comes around!

we think govt needs public lands that horses are on for cattle and engery – what if there is another need – i had a friend tell me that fema is building camps across america – some 800 and i thot he was joking until i goggled it and found its true – by executive order fema has been allowed to build several hundred camps across america – especially after 9/11 so google fema concentration camps and see what you get – i was shocked – is this the real reason the blm is rounding up wild horses off isolated public lands

  22. jan eaker Says:

Jan, please be sure to reaqd ALL the sites listed when you google something. And also to realize that just because something is stated on the web, doesn’t mean it’s truth.
there are just as many sites debunking this theory as there are supporting it.
let’s try to stick to what we KNOW is happening out there, from observers in the field.

  23. Michael J Ahles Says:

Oh and the cattle industry being the reason BLM is erradicating their competition, the wild mustangs of the west is:
    Another fact!

  25. Jan Says:

another reason to boycott eating beef and sheep – read on a health newsletter by a dr – 2/3 of beef and sheep in this country are fed hormones to make them grow faster and get ready for market sooner so these hormones can wrack problems in human bodies

  26. Michael J Ahles Says:

    Right on Jan,

I have no doubt about it that if all of the people trying to help the wild mustangs simply stopped eating beef, the mustangs would be freed.

Try it, its free, and the mustangs soon will be.

  27. Suzanne Moore Says:

Hey, guys ~ we’ve discussed this a hundred times. Boycotting beef would have NO effect. These public lands ranchers only supply about 3% of US beef and most of that is exported.

Besides, there is a LOT more than beef going on here!

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

      THANK YOU SUZANNE.

THE CLOUD FOUNDATION AND THE CLOUD FOUNDATION BLOG IS:

      NOT

      ABOUT BOYCOTTING BEEF!!!!!

  28. Michael J Ahles Says:

    “Montgomery Bus Boycott

The Montgomery Bus Boycott a year-long protest in Montgomery, Alabama, that galvanized the American Civil Rights Movement and led to a 1956 decision by the Supreme Court of the United States declaring segregated seating on buses unconstitutional.”

Boycotts work especially when it comes to equality and freedom.
A beef boycott I believe would set the mustangs free.
It matters not the percentage of beef that is grown on our land as Suzanne suggests, what matters is the beef industry as a whole demanding the mustangs right to be free. And the only way they will demand the mustangs natural right, just like our lands natural right, like our American right to be free, is if they feel an ecconomic squeeze. We have the power to set the mustangs free and its as simple as choosing wisely what you eat.
    Don’t eat beef!
    Thanks,

    • Suzanne Moore Says:

Michael, these two things are absolutely NOT comparable for many reasons. Montgomery is one city with one bus line and a huge national issue involved.

These guys will NOT notice if we eat beef or not, and besides it wouldn’t be THEIR beef you’re not eating. It would be someone else’s entirely. And we are a drop in the bucket compared to the Civil Right’s Movement! Good grief!

You can quit eating beef if you want to of course, but don’t expect it to help the Mustangs.

  29. Michael J Ahles Says:

A beef boycott will set the mustangs FREE.
Try it, the solution is FREEdom!
