That is a ridiculous article. Will wildlife suffer if wild horses remain? How dumb is that?

I’m going to ask the same question I’ve asked over and over again in my comments for wild horse & burro removal EAs.

WHO’S OUT THERE COUNTING THE WILDLIFE?

Has anyone at the BLM/USFS ever reported how many hoofed grazing and browsing wildlife there are on any of the HMAs or HAs? Not how many are permitted (Are there wildlife AMLs?), but the actual population. How can anyone make a valid decision to remove wild horses without directly comparing the impacts of ALL these species?

American Herds has a great article up.with a refrence to the fact that the mule deer have increased 900%..The BLM has gotten away with this so long they don’t really try to cover their tracks..courts accept what they say on face value unless you present evidence to the contrary..and Boy Howdy..its not hard to find…

Tina Nappe seems to have a true handle on her emotions as it relates to animal life. This is not the first commentary she’s written.
Several months ago, two men died trying to save a dog from drowning. It is her contention that the men were foolish to have risked and lost their lives to save the life of an animal.
And in a logical & robotic world, that would be true. But no one I know – certainly not the men & women who Advocate for Wild Equines and comment in these pages – would think twice about trying to save the life of an animal.
It isn’t foolishness. It’s compassion. And in every article where Advocates are characterized as ‘horse huggers’ or other denigrations, the prevailing theme seems to be – Compassion is a character flaw and NOT a strength.
And yeah, it is a dumb article. Wildlife has been kickin’ around, thriving & surviving, well-adapted, for centuries before humans stepped up to ‘save’ them. And that INCLUDES Wild Equines.

i might add that the BLM posted a link to miss Tinas article at the bottom of the Tuscaroro EA, in support of their position on the removal of horses…I am guessing they consider that opinion piece to represent their “scientific” studies. I consider it highly inappropriate on a taxpayers website to advertise with an opinion piece and we should demand it be removed or give equal space to a rebuttal on the EA proposal..Craigs piece is perfect.

THAT ARTICLE WAS APRIL 28–CRAIG’S REBUTTAL COULD STILL BE PUT IN THE COMMENTS. WOULD BE BETTER TO POST IN A CURRENT EDITION. AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE NEED TO SEE IT.
