Twin Peaks Comments now – Massive Wild Horse & Burro Roundup Planned

2,058 Wild Horses & Burros Targeted For California Roundup slated to begin on 8/11/10 – Public Comments Needed, Every Comment Helps — please comment by March 5th- it makes a difference!

Our voices are making a difference for America’s wild horses, and now is the time to keep up the pressure! We told you this would be a long, difficult fight – and we are the horses’ only hope. Please take action below and send this alert to at least three friends or family members. It’s critical that we grow our grassroots efforts on behalf of these magnificent horses.

In the last two months, after receiving well over ten thousand public comments in opposition, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has postponed two scheduled wild horse roundups in Utah’s Confusion Mountains Complex and eastern Nevada’s Eagle Herd Management Area.

Now we need you to act again to oppose the massive removal of more than 2000 wild horses and burros from the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area (HMA) in California.  CLICK HERE TO TAKE ACTION.  Thank you. (note: the action leads to an easy-letter-sender from In Defense of Animals, please write your own letter for maximum effect!)

Have done it thanks for the easy way to do this!

  2. Renee Antaya Says:

Please stop tese horrific round ups. There is no reason to take these horses from their home that they have known. It is BARBARIC , TRAGIC and HORRIFIC what is being done to these horses. the mares are aborting their foals, foals are loosing their hoofs a painful condition, they are beyond freightened by an act they don’t understand, and they are DYING for no reason.
STOP THIS BABARIC, TRAGIC ROUND UP NOW, THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT EXCEPT GREED.

  3. Tara Bruning Says:

Our innocent wild mustangs are being abused and killed in more ways than one. They are being targeted by pure GREED. Please help our beautiful wild mustangs to be preserved in the WILD WEST where they belong. These majestic horses are our heritage to be enjoyed and left alone. There are many other ways to handle the mustangs-WITHOUT HELICOPTERS. This type of roundup RUINS many of THE MUSTANGS for adoption. All of the horses that are mis-handled are not given a fair chance nor their future adopters. The horses are terrified for their lives. Horses never forget pain and suffering.

These are peaceful animals and deserve to be treated accordingly. This is HORSE ABUSE!!!

    STOP THE ROUNDUPS NOW!!!

  4. jan Says:

got email from friend in new mexico – no horse roundup in placitas – ever again – that is what she told me

  5. jan Says:

i believe the horses are dying for us – i heard glenn beck speak today – he said for freedom you have to be brave – to stand up for what you believe – the horses are standing in our place – if we want to keep them and our freedoms, we must be brave and maybe even die for our freedom

  6. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

    JAN–REALLY?!!!

  7. Jackie Says:

why the roundups? who benefits with this? How much MOOOOLAH is involved and WHO gets it? Why not leave the creatures alone? Or is it that the government has found a “goldmine” under the land that the horses are occupying and doesn’t want the public to know? LEAVE THEM BE!

  8. Amy Tremper Says:

No horse nor any person should have to die needlessly. The round ups are cruel but we need to find practical ways to solve these problems; martyring ourselves or the horses is not an option that will guarantee anything but publicity.

I would like to see plans made to help to keep the size of the herds small enough that they do not die of starvation or lack of water.

  9. Kathy O. Says:

yeah, Salazar’s land deal delayed & Idaho & Illinois adopting Horse Slaughter Bill. Ironic that’s where the Wild Horses & little Burros are! Nevada & Illinois!

  10. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

KATHY, COULD YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE LAND DEAL IN ILLINOIS? STRANGE THAT THEY SUDDENLY ARE LOOKING TO REOPEN THE SLAUGHTER PLANT THERE.

  11. Kathy O. Says:

CONTACT ~> United States Attorney General & Inspector General. (They are both younger men & cuities!) US Attorney General is head of the US Dept of Justice, the chief Law Enforcement. Inspector General concerned w/ violations of Civil Rights & Civil liberties. emails ~> oig.hotline@usdoj.gov inspector.general@usdoj.gov anyways, is what we’re doing other group. We must act NOW to save the Calico Horses remaining. PLEASE email http://www.blm.gov …protest on killing of young 15 yr old mare w/ colic & other 16 Mares in hospital must remain alive & continue to receive Vet care. After all, theses are the Calico Mares, beautiful when they came in. I told BLM in my email …’There are people who would take the 16 ill Mares & nuture them back to health’. They can’t simply euthanize by rifle! How barbaric! Ialso told the BLM that folks were contacting the US Attorney General! Tell them anything to try to save what’s left.

  12. Kathy O. Says:

Representative Sacia is Illinois boy pushing to re-open 26 Horse slaughter plants in Illinois. Rep Sacia’s email response to me was “We are transporting 100,000 horses/yearly to 3rd world slaughter in MX/long transport. ah, US stricter border controls.” He’s pro-slaughter. In Idaho, horse slaughter bill has passed ID Senate & was or is on it’s way to ID House…email ID House of Rep.

  13. Kathy O. Says:

    IIllinois Rep. Sacia’s email ~> jimsacia@aeroinc.net

  14. Tara Bruning Says:

Why not spend some of the money on feeding the Mustangs and Burros large round bales of hay in the Wild!! (use the helicopters to drop off the hay). The horses would then perhaps look forward to the helicopters…feeding them.

By having natural grazing on grass land with supplemental hay in the winter (care for the horses properly with management) the horses would stay healthier.

The slaughtering of our wild mustangs due to overpopulation in the holding facilities and the GREED of man is so very inhumane. Because of this ignorant mis-management our innocent mustangs suffer over and over again. Why? It is 2010!!!!Please stop this torture.

Also the BLM needs to make sure the Mustangs and Burros have water in times of drought (instead of deprivation of water with fencing as in the past). I am sure the cost of natural care would be far less in the long run. The mustangs belong in the wild.

To capture the mustangs (if needed) – what happened to baiting the horses with feed? It is much less stressful for both man and horse!!

  15. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

THERE SHOULD BE A MOVE AFOOT TO GET REP. SACIA IN ILLINOIS OUT OF OFFICE. THEY GOT BURNS OUT AFTER HE PUSHED THE SLAUGHTER BILL THROUGH–THAT TOOK HIM OUT. THE SAME THING NEEDS TO HAPPEN TO SACIA. ILLINOIS RESIDENTS NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF WHAT HE HAS DONE.

  16. Kathy O. Says:

so well……Start a petition to ~> Remove Rep Jim Sacia from Illinois. I’ll sign it! I wish someone would do a petition to US Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. (chief existing Law Enforcement) & US Inspector General Glenn A. Fine (report violations of civil rights & civil liberties) to ask for impeachment of DOI /BLM Ken Salazar! I tried to do a petition, but can’t!

  17. jan eaker Says:

I’ll sign that petition, just read that a MO representative is trying to do the same thing there; this is terrible,

  18. Kathy O. Says:

I just rec’d a call from Defenders of Wildlife regarding donations…….Idaho & Montana, Yellowstone…..It’s the BLM helicopters again, this time aerial shooting of Wolves! For this we thanks DOI/BLM Ken Salazar who recently simply took the Wolves “OFF” the near extinction list! That person is a bumer! He is not environmentally inclined! total pavement, concrete type dude…..I’m sure we all would like some wildlife here in USA.

  19. Kathy O. Says:

?dunno? but didn’t Pres Obama appoint Salazar? THe guys @ US Attorney General & Inspector Gen web site look like nice people to me! I really feel there’s hope there! I get an idea, I seldom give up!

  20. Kathy O. Says:

There’s recent pics on Flickr username Cat Kindfather of Calico horses at Fallon. I worry on the Wild Horses….the pics show puncture wound, ribs showing, sad faces & the horses are unable to reach their hay… (click on Kid’s heART & photos come up)
