Sacramento Protest!

KCRA News Broadcast of this wonderful protest at the State Capitol – a wonderful turnout for a rainy day!

all photos by Jason Preisner, NorCal Equine Rescue.

Carla, one of the Sacramento organizers wrote: “We were thrilled with the turnout, probably 35-40 people. The protest made the 5pm news on KCRA 3 TV on 1/21, we had presentations to the protest group by four of
us without the press present:  Craig Downer (wildlife ecologist), Elyse Gardner (Humane Observer), Tawnee Preisner (Founder of NorCal Equine Rescue) & myself. All involved were good sports with the rainy weather! “

“After the protest, about 20 of us hiked about 8 blocks to Sen. Barbara Boxer’s office to meet with her aide, Brandon Ida, on the wild horse issues & to ask for her support to urge the moratorium be put in place & to fast track improvement & passage of the ROAM Act.”

  1. Sharon Kennedy Says:

Scriptures tell us we are burdening God with our sins and he is getting weary of our evilness. Smarten up. We are supposed to serve God in the virtues of Christ and he wouldn’t be out killing horses, breeding puppies for profit or going to cruel entertainments where animals are phsycially, emotionally and spiritually abused.

Shame on anyone who violates the virutes of Christ because of ignorance, greed, or just plain wickenedness.

  2. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

TUCSON AND SACRAMENTO–THANK YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE!!! THE MOVEMENT IS GROWING AND GETTING LOUDER.

  3. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

WOULD IT EVER BE POSSIBLE TO PUT THIS ON THE BALLOT? DO YOU THINK THE PEOPLE WOULD VOTE IN FAVOR OF A MORATORIUM ON ROUND-UPS–ESPECIALLY WITH THE CURRENT FEELING THAT IS FLOWING THROUGH THE COUNTRY RIGHT NOW. PEOPLE ARE FEELING THEIR OWN FREEDOM THREATENED AND THE HORSES SYMBOLIZE THAT.

  7. Shirley VerHoef Says:

Read this just today Jan30th. Who IS this person (Worley) that says with 40 years experience they conduct the round ups in the most HUMANE way!

“Wild-horse advocates have criticized federal land managers after the deaths of 26 mustangs so far in a government roundup on the range north of Reno, Nev., up from nine deaths a week ago.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management on Friday Jan. 29 reported four more deaths stemming from its roundup in the Calico Mountain Complex.

Agency spokeswoman JoLynn Worley says three horses have died at the roundup site and 23 have died at a Fallon holding facility where the horses have been taken since the two-month roundup began Dec. 28.

Activists say the BLM’s roundup methods are “brutal” and violate the intent of a 1971 law Congress enacted to protect the horses.

Worley says the agency has 40 years of experience of conducting roundups and has learned the safest way to conduct them.”

  8. Janet Ferguson Says:

Why aren’t they counting the “miscarriages” in addition? That would be 20 + 26 = 46.

    Right?
