MAR, YOU ARE GOOD AT KEEPING US ON TRACK AND MAKING CERTAIN THAT WE GET OUR FACTS STRAIGHT. WE NEED TO KEEP OUR FOCUS.

  2. Margaret Says:

What about Mr. Abbey’s statement that we were welcome to observe the “gathers”? For those of us who can’t get to NV for this–this is like what happened to Ginger in Sept. First she was told one thing and an hour later it was TOTAL REVERSAL.

    • Laura Evans Says:

I think it was Don Glenn who said we were welcome to observe. I think that means we were pretty much invited and maybe the owners of the private land need to take it up with the BLM for inviting all of us onto their land.

  3. jan sterling Says:

someone suggested trying to take photos of the blm – dont know how u would go up in a plane as they would see you – but if you could get a hd camera they take shots from way up they were used for planet earth series – drone plane with just a camera would be great if you could find one – they are small enough the blm might not see it — just praying for extra heavy storms in the area so blm cant get off the ground – sad to say i did not see any coverage on tv here in southern california area – did anyone see it on cnn or other channel

  4. jan sterling Says:

on another note that video by sheryl crow very good except you need to tell producters to fix it – it hangs up when you play it and it does the same thing on youttube – this is an important video that shd be out in the public domain so they can see what is happening to the wild horse – they know about the problem but havent fixed it yet

  5. golde w Says:

jan….it must be your computer…the utube plays fine…just played it…and the vimeo, too

  6. Nancy Babcock Says:

Is there a way to specifically and directly counter what Bob Abbey says in the CNN video?? I saw no way to leave a comment on their site….he looks and sounds sane and believable, which is not good for us. We know the truth, but the rest of the country doesn’t, and when he goes on and what he says is not directly countered, people come away thinking the BLM are good guys doing a good job…and we KNOW that’s not at all the case. What can we do about this?

    • Laura Evans Says:

All we can do is what we have been doing. We peacefully protest. We spread the word. We bring attention to what is really going on. We come prepared with the correct answers. For every wrong answer the BLM gives we give them two correct answers. The BLM says the horses are eating themselves out of rangeland we show pictures of fat horses with plent of forage. You’re right, we can’t counter what he says directly, but he can’t counter what we say either and there are more of us and the facts are behind us.

    • kas0859ohio Says:

What are Bob Abbey’s qualifications to make ANY statements on the effect the roundups have on the horses’ health? Someone needs to point out (on camera) that he is NOT a horse expert.

  7. Marilyn Wargo Says:

The BLM has been at their misinformation a very long time. Because they are the official agency and managers of the wild horses and burros, people do have a tendency to accept. But there is an undercurrent in the Nation and we are in that undercurrent. Those who hear things and are curious will listen and look for what we are saying. That is how this grows. We say there is trouble and people do listen, they are not all sheep. Many are shocked. Many are angered and many will join us a little at a time. And there are many who have written and called Washington and their reps, as asked, and we may never know who they are, but they have heard us. We have power and we are doing the right thing. That is compelling. Mar

  8. Nancy Babcock Says:

John Holland has made an excellent comment on Facebook on New England Equine Rescue’s wall. I’ll copy it here–he says what we should be doing to counter the one-sided CNN reporting on the roundups and the BLM.

    Hi Folks,

CNN just ran a puff piece on the Calico roundups. It was filmed

yesterday during the media event that BLM put on. It consisted of a

brief statement saying that “animal rights activists” objected to the

roundups on the basis that they were cruel. It then showed a BLM

spokesman saying that the horses were being removed so they wouldn’t

starve and that they were going someplace wonderful where they would

have all the hay they could eat.

We need to make it very clear that this story completely missed the

point and that documents show the BLM is bent on virtually wiping out

the wild horses and burros. We need them to realize that this is a

story about a rogue agency. Please call their automated news comment line:

    CNN 404-827-2600

Leave a polite but strong message that they missed the story completely

and did their listeners a disservice in doing so. Make it clear that

there is documented evidence that the BLM is planning to remove 14,000

horses this fiscal year alone (45% of what the BLM estimates the

population to be). If they get a few thousand calls they may revisit

the story. Put them onto the George Knapp and Steve Long stories.

    Thanks!

    John Holland

    • Karen L. Says:

Nancy, Thank you for the comments from John Holland. As you noted in your earlier post, the CNN site isn’t friendly if one is trying to comment on a specific story or to actually contact a specific reporter. Maybe if we all slam their phone line it will make a difference!

  9. jan eaker Says:

John, thank you for this, I will start calling today, and will get friends and family to do the same.

  10. Barbara Steele Says:

There was the same piece of “fluff” on MSN last night. A video showing helicopter roundup of the horses with reporter in studio saying horses would get immunizations so they can be adopted and/or taken to corrals. Had to download Silverlight player to watch this piece of cr*p–obviously sent from BLM. Tried to leave a comment but couldn’t get it to work.

  11. Honor Hannon Says:

I have friends there filming and observing the round-up. More horses corraled than BLM has told us. Also they admit to euthinizing one horse already but will not give reason, could be leg injury from slipping on icy grounds. This must stop!

  12. Honor Hannon Says:

Blm not giving out correct numbers of horses corralled-closer to 150. Already one horse had to be euthanized bur blm will not disclose the reason why. One can imagine in this icy snowy weather. May Higher Powers watch over these poor animals in this season of peace.

  13. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

CALLED CNN AND GAVE GEORGE KNAPP’S T.V. STATION PHONE #. ASKED THEM TO WATCH “STAMPEDE TO OBLIVION” TO HEAR THE TRUTH. TOLD THEM THAT HE IS A 14-TIME EMMY AWARD WINNING JOURNALIST. TOLD THEM THAT THE PUBLIC JUST DOESN’T BELIEVE GOVERNMENT INFORMATION.

  14. Honor Hannon Says:

Blm not giving out correct numbers of horses corralled-closer to 150. Already one horse had to be euthanized but blm will not disclose the reason why. One can imagine in this icy snowy weather. May Higher Powers watch over these poor animals in this season of peace.

  15. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

WHEN YOU CALL CNN–YOU ONLY HAVE 2 MINUTES TO STATE YOUR COMMENT.

  16. Nancy Babcock Says:

We to get as many people as we can to call CNN…and Louie’s right–you have only 2 minutes–I re-recorded my message at least 5 times (fortunately you have that option at the end), so better to keep at it until you have something neat and concise that gets all the important info in.

    CNN’s phone line–open 24/7–is 404-827-2600.

Temptation is to call repeatedly, but in order to not make them discount you if they hear your voice too many times, better to space them out, change the wording, and give them something different in terms of info each time you call.

I also think it’s important to thank them for their coverage–BUT say that they need to get an official response from The Cloud Foundation or the IDA to counter Bob Abbey’s statement…that ‘the other side of the story” has not been adequately represented.

  17. GOLDE W Says:

YOU CAN ALSO EMAIL YOUR COMMENT TO CNN…GO TO … cnn.com/feedback
    my comment……
Your story of dec 30, 2009 about the wild horse protests was very biased towards the BLM. Be very aware that it is a very corrupt agency. The statistics that they give are lies. I have sat in on BLM Advisory Board meetings, gone to Washington DC, witnessed brutal round ups…I know of what I speak). The number of wild horses left in the wild is far less than what they tell you.The reason they do round ups is lies. There are no starving horses. The horses in the Calico Complex , NV are fat and healthy. I implore you to look at independent studies regarding statistics . There is much more to it. See the trailer for a film coming out soon……..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FWefEkv85Q&feature=player_embedded
See links that give you information that is not from the BLM . http://www.americanherds.blogspot.com
    http://www.thecloudfoundationblog
Bob Abbey lied ..they do round ups all the time in the heat of the summer.See the round up they did in the Pryor Mtns. in Aug. They did one in my backyard in Idaho in July. They are brutal. The round ups in winter are brutal and inhumane. With all the corruption in the news about the Dept of the Interior…why would you not believe what I say to you now. I have FOIA ed the BLM for information…it is shocking ..they are shipping slaughtered wild horses to Europe for “wild meat”….we have evidence that this is happening. The BLM is an agency not to be trusted. I implore you to look further into this…see the trailer of the film “Disappointment Valley”, (on utube) Jim Baca, (former BLM director ) Congressman Grijalva, Michael Blake, Viggo Mortenson, Sheryl Crow, Daryl Hannah, Raoul Trujillo…all tell of the corruption and cruelty of the BLM…Please give the wild horses the respect they deserve….our country was built with their help..and now the BLM is on a hell bent path of MANAGED EXTINCTION….IT IS ALL ABOUT GREED..and we are trying so desperately to expose the truth….this is why we all are standing up in protest now…Please, before it is too late…get the real story…thanks…

  18. Margaret Says:

Left my message. Not sure that I was very eloquent. But I did ask them to come out to a rally and ask us what the deal was. Not just to listen to Bob Abbey and Ken Salazar because there cattlemen and anti horse. That they needed to get a clear picture.

Oh well. Hopefully eventhough I blumbled my way–maybe they’ll understand I was nervous about calling and get the gist. One can always hope!

  19. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

NONE OF US ARE PAID PROFESSIONALS AT DOING THIS. THAT IS WHAT MAKES THIS MOVEMENT SO REAL–AND WE ARE LEARNING FAST!

  20. Sandra Miller Says:

Everything that everyone is doing is important and worthwhile. How could it not be, when paramount in everyone’s mind is the welfare of the wild horses and burros? It is very hard to educate the general public and the national media about these issues, and no one segment, even one on CNN showing Bob Abbey looking so patriarchal and knowledgeable, will ever determine the fate of this matter. What could very well determine the fate of this issue is the lawsuit pursued by In Defense of Animals, however. I have always told the friends and relatives that I write to that signing petitions, writing letters, and making phone calls are “as good as gold”, and I have never until now asked people to donate money to a cause. However, I believe we must “seize the moment” now that we have an important animal welfare organization willing to pursue this lawsuit to the end. You can plainly see how difficult this whole situation is – we have powerful forces allied against us in Corporate America and a Department of the Interior and a BLM which is working for Corporate America, not the citizens of this country. More than anything else, this lawsuit has to work, and so we need to support In Defense of Animals in this with every dime we can raise. It was the small amounts of money raised by the children that Wild Horse Annie had to use to help her get the 1971 law passed in the first place. We are fortunate to have in this lawsuit two very credible plaintiffs in Craig Downer and Terri Farley. Terri herself has said that it was her young readers of horse stories who propelled her, with quaking knees, into the halls of Congress on behalf of the horses because her readers told her she must “do something”. There is no one who could be a more credible witness for the horses than Craig Downer. We are so fortunate to have them and this lawsuit. We all wish we could be millionaires so we could give it all to the horses, but we aren’t, so my plea is that everyone see the importance of helping to finance this very important lawsuit by In Defense of Animals. Get the kids involved again! And pass the hat to your friends and relatives, because we have to make this lawsuit work. If it prevails, it won’t matter how CNN reports about the issue!

everytime i email someone – on news station or whatever i always leave a link to the cloud website – feel if they come here and see all the data they will learn the truth – i think a lot of people of have heard of cloud

  22. jan sterling Says:

can that sheryl crow film be sent to tv stations for them to include on news

  23. Karen L. Says:

I made notes before calling CNN—so I had a script of sorts. I suggested they do a true investigative report, not just a few rather superficial interviews. I asked that they have a good researcher actually familiarize him/herself with the Wild Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971. Then, read Judge Rosemary Collyer’s recent ruling which states that the BLM is SUBVERTING the purpose of that statute by continuing to roundup horses and zero-out range areas. Also, RESEARCH and look at cattle grazing and mineral interests on the horses’ designated land. And, by the way, RESEARCH the personal histories of both Ken Salazar and Bob Abbey. By that time, CNN should be able to discern what the protesters are REALLY attempting to say; that last week’s story entirely missed the point.

    • Karen L. Says:

Also, FYI—I timed my comments, and was not given but ~45 sec. to complete the process. Yes, you can resubmit, but the initial time was not 2 minutes.

  24. Michael J Ahles Says:

Don Glenn of BLM said at the advisory meeting in December that the mustangs are impossible to count. So much for their arguement of over-population.

The Nevada Attorney Generals Office last week told me that freedom is out of their jurisdiction.

And The Nevada Governors office gave me Kathy Barcomb’s phone number 775-849-3625, who before hanging up on me said the mustangs should have a bullet shot through their brains.

I’m going to boycott beef. I think that action will counter our governments wrongful actions and help set the west free again.

  25. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

EVERYONE NEEDS TO THROW IN THEIR IDEAS AND THOUGHTS–THEY JUST NEED TO HEAR FROM THOUSANDS OF US–AND KEEP ON HEARING.

  26. Michael J Ahles Says:

I’m going to boycott beef. I think it will help preserve our liberties, and set the mustangs. Ecconomic sanction work.
Don’t ask the government what they will do, ask youself what we all must do for freedom.

    Contact CNN by email here:

Then click on: Send in story idea. If the Submit button doesn’t work right, it’s because the message is too long.

Try to add comments to all the major online newspaper articles if possible to get the truth out. Also try to send Letters to the Editors of the majors. We need to take advantage of the press our WH&B are getting.

  28. LOUIE COCROFT Says:

ALSO, ANYONE THAT HAS A SCANNER CAN PASTE DATA FROM SOME OF THE WEBSITES ONTO FEEDBACK SITE–PUT IN PERTINENT INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION–THERE IS SO MUCH INFORMATION THAT CAN BE GIVEN. AS CARLA SAYS, YOU HAVE TO SCALE IT DOWN.
