Lawsuit Filed Against BLM to Stop Calico Roundup!

Suit may block BLM roundup of mustangs in Nevada by Scott Sonner, AP

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Animal protection advocates are asking a federal judge to block the government’s planned roundup of thousands of wild mustangs in Nevada next month, saying the helicopter-aided gathers are illegal because they “traumatize, injure and kill” some of the animals.

Lawyers for the California-based In Defense of Animals said in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. on Monday that the wild horses are an integral part of the natural ecosystem and should remain on rangeland throughout much of the West rather than be herded into long-term holding pens. Is anyone else having trouble with the change.org website? It tells me my email is already registered, which it is, but when I ask for my password it says it doesn’t exist…

Regardless I’m stoked about the lawsuit!

Yes, thank you to the attorneys tackling this! Let’s pray for them to find the right words/presentation to be effective for the horses! Do you suppose Steven Long knew this particular suit was in the works when he wrote the “TRO” article? Godspeed to everyone involved!

In Defense of Animals quotes attorney William J. Spriggs of the firm Buchanan, Ingersoll, and Rooney as a lead for this lawsuit. Here is a link to his “vita”.

If a Presidential executive order was issued, Mustangs and Burros would be rescued.

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

yep, Morgan, if the man has done enough all over the world and can spare a moment for a pressing and lifesaving Domestic issue he just might be able to do that! Remember that will mean a reality check on the DOI/BLM on his part. But not everyone a new president chooses works out. Mar

Morgan- This is such a good article, and contains a lot thoughts I’ve been saying for awhile, the president we have now is NOT the president the people voted for. I’m posting it to facebook. Thanks-Kathy

I am hoping that these lawyers have real belief that this can succeed, lawyers are pragmatists, and usually want to win their cases, plus the fact that this is Pro Bono, I am really praying hard for our horses on this one.
Bless Craig, all the plaintiffs and these attorneys.
Keep emailing, writing, signing and calling,

  10. kas0859ohio Says:

    • Morgan Williams Says:

Glory hallelujah! Thank you Father God! Thank you Craig, Defense of Animals, all the attorneys and every single Mustang or Burro advocate on the planet!

Yipeeeeeee! This is just the break we have been aching for! So much can be done and so much can happen in 28 days!

Forward march everyone! The enemy may be sounding the call to retreat!

  12. Louie Cocroft Says:

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS BEEN IN SOME POLITICAL BATTLES AND WHO IS A GOOD SOUNDING BOARD FOR ME AND IS ALWAYS WILLING TO TAKE THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DEBATE–SO I CAN PRACTICE. HOW DO WE ANSWER THIS–SINCE WE WANT THE HORSES AND BURROS LEFT COMPLETELY ALONE, DOES THAT MEAN THAT WE DON’T WANT GOVERNMENT HELP IF THEY NEED IT? THAT HAS PROBABLY BEEN ANSWERED ALREADY, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ALL RESPONSES SO AS TO BE READY. I THINK THERE IS A PROVISION IN THE ORIGINAL WILD HORSE AND BURRO ACT FOR ANY EMERGENCIES, ISN’T THERE? WHAT HAPPENS WITH OTHER WILDLIFE ON THE RANGE?
