When will Ginger be in Chicago?

  2. Janet Ferguson Says:

Please discuss on the radio show the term “FERAL” as used regarding wild mustangs. . . Here is a company, found when googling holiday cards mustangs – which has great cards HOWEVER, each and every description on the back of each card of Mustangs (and they have several, not just holidays) spreads the term “FERAL” in describing mustangs!

I would prefer they use another type of term, even nothing more than free-roaming cousin of our domestic horses or something.

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

Use of the term, feral, is why I am not purchasing any of these cards.

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

        Just wrote to her:
Your Mustang cards are beautiful, and I am writing because the use of the term “feral” in your description is the very term that the enemies of the Mustang use when they justify their clearance from the legally held reserves already set up for them.

Just writing to urge you to think of another, less “loaded” term.

Such as, “the free roaming cousin of our domestic horses” or, use it’s NATIONAL DESIGNATION WHICH IS:

        NATIONAL HERITAGE SPECIES!!!

        Sincerely,

        Janet Ferguson

Sadly, not to be a customer. Your images are beautiful.

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Good work, JF! I hope they Evolve! mar

    • Morgan Williams Says:

Good work Jan. They needed an education.

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

Thanks – next time I will not post the company’s name or web because I may be hauled off under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act.

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

Seriously, though, the proprietor of this card store sent me a very nice email and said she will consider this rewording when she reprints the cards! I am impressed.

  3. Janet Ferguson Says:

Here’s a card place benefitting a horse rescue and, she says she supports The Cloud Foundation

  4. Marilyn Wargo Says:

There are some of you here, JF, Morgan Jan C. and maybe others like Louie and Karen who may want to be founding members of a little group that Roxy, Jo Bunny, Barb, and Suzanne and I, are trying to get started. Your participation is wanted and your involvement needed… FOLM; Furious Old Ladies for Mustangs. The young and not female are welcome. I think RT is a founding member and the group was conceived at his site. Mar

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

      I think I could start a chapter in my town. . . count me in. . . .

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

        Great and Angela, too? Mar

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

who’s Angela? Angela Lansbury? That WOULD be great!

P.S. Last nite on radio they were talking about your idea, Marilyn Wargo, of the “herd watchers” or “adopt a herd” —
You need to go talk to Elle of the Howling Ridge Encampment and get your ideas across since she’s “running with it” and wants the schools to adopt the herds — she is working with Ginger (from Ginger’s 1995 list of existing herds) to have the kids research the history of the herds, including the “zeroed out” herds. (to restore them and keep their memory) It is great! Did you listen? Also weren’t we talking about a ‘SHIELD’ design for each herd that would GIVE THEM AN IDENTITY AND A FACE on this blog??? Somebody old and angry needs to catch up with Elle and stay involved to keep all these good ideas together.
I nominate you — come in please, where are you?
        Over and Out

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

P.S. Was brainstorming on names: (for our group of old mad people)

WEST – “Wild Equid Sentry Group”
BAD – “Bold and Angry Dames”
ROAR – “Raging on American Ranges”
        “Mustang Underground”
LAMB – “Ladies’ Auxiliary for Mustangs and Burros”

These aren’t great, but it was fun. . .

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

        Make that

WEST – Wild Equid Sentry Troops

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

Motto of the old and mad:

Our good days are your worst nightmare! lol

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

REGARDING MARILYN WARGO’s ADOPT A HERD IDEA:

Somebody TELL ELLE of Howling Ridge don’t forget the Indian Schools out there and other schools — of course this is Public Land HOWEVER the horses were here long before the land was even a glimmer in the Public’s eye. . . and certainly also were America’s first nations. . .who spread the horses upon their REINTRODUCTION to this continent by stealing from the estancias (I think that is “ranch” in Spanish) and using the horses for trade.

Of course “prehistoric” man on this North American continent was apparently no stranger to the horses progenitors either!

So why not include all schools, not just US Public school kids in this????? Indian schools, Catholic schools, etc.

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Angela Sillitto, she has been commenting here for weeks! mar

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

JF, I have bee in touch with Elle and she has got back to me. I do want the Indian schools included. My Grand Dad gave to St Joseph’s Indian School all his life and was born nearby. Pine Ridge. mar

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

WEST sounds good for those who will want to be actual Mustang Guardians, local people and visitors… mar

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

JF, Did you nominate me for something??? I have to go outside to the trailer to get online. We are not hooked up or getting internet yet. It is not like it was a couple weeks ago and I could go on any time. I have and will keep in touch with Elle. I would love to write it down and mail it, one day soon… But
I am isolated and not always in touch right now. Next week I hope we are online in the house! I will do the best I can, but you are right in there, and I thought we were on the same page… so you can maybe keep track of some of this stream of concienceness stuff…. Please?? It is up here, too, that helps.

A herd can be adopted by many and the symbol and shield can come from all contributing… then the most appropriate should be adapted..
But the shield can be done anew any time for any new adopters. mar

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

OH Angela Sillitto! Sorry. Senior Moment!

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

I PUT ALL THE IDEAS YOU HAD IN A VERY NICE EMAIL (EXPANDED CONCEPT OF SCHOOLS TO INCLUDE INDIAN SCHOOLS, ETC. ETC. AS WELL AS THE “SHIELD IDEA”) AND SENT IT ON TO THE CLOUD FOUNDATION C/O MAKENDRA AND GINGER AS WELL AS A COPY TO CRAIG DOWNER! SO IT IS OUT THERE FLOATING AROUND NOW, HOPEFULLY ELLE WILL GET WIND OF IT. . . YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING. GO INSIDE AND GET WARM

    • Laura Evans Says:

What about MAMA’s …Moms Against Mustang Abuse.

  5. Nora Morbeck Says:

I want to be a Furious Old Lady for Mustangs! OK. I’m only 45. Is that old enough?

  6. Janet Ferguson Says:

    http://www.animallawcoalition.com/animals-and-politics/article/73

This is a link to an animal law coalition article regarding the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (until today I was unaware of it)

This law was also sneaked in in November as was the Burns amendment.

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

If I read correctly, apparently Feinstein was a sponsor — but the “terrorism” was happening, I guess, in her state (against animal labs or something) and she was facing reelection.

  7. Marilyn Wargo Says:

Good show, heard the last part. Thanks all for the renewed hope and vision. Mar

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

Did you hear about the “adopt a herd” hope so see my above post this was your idea sweetie

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

JF, We have been on this subject a couple times of guardians for the herds. I think it was in September the first time…. You brought up the shields! Lovely idea, very appropriate. Yes, I did hear about adopt a herd… that they all need to be recognizable like Cloud and herd members. The wolves in the Yellowstone packs have names from the visitors. It has made it more personal for those who want to protect them. Tragic, too, when they die. mar

  8. Louie Cocroft Says:

WHO SAYS WE’RE OLD? HOW ABOUT FOXY OLD LADIES FOR MUSTANGS.

  9. jo bunny Says:

question regarding blogtalk show last night…..I THOUGHT THAT I HEARD someone make the comment that don glenn had stated yesterday that blm has changed their plan for the calico complex roundup & that they do NOT plan to return any of the horses back to the land. IS THIS WHAT I HEARD??? i want to know before i REALLY hit the roof & i have to add a few more F’s to FOLM (EFFIN” fed-up, fuming, foulmouthed & frustrated are just the start). did i hear that correctly? does that mean that they are rounding up the 2486 to 2747 wild horses & NOT allowing the planned 264 horses to go back to the land??? or does this mean that they will plan on rounding up fewer wild horses? or what? does anyone know????

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

Yes I heard that too about Don Glenn. I thought they said they were going to take all that they “got” — not return any.

Some talk was whether there are even that many out there and also that according to their projected expected total for their gathers thru this FY (THRU SEPT 2010) that they will, by their own count, be in “negative territory”

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Whoa!? I would not put anything past these greedy effing people. mar

    • Karen L. Says:

jb, They’re probably giving conflicting information in order to confuse the issue in case they can’t even FIND the 2500 horses they say are there. It would be easy to justify not returning 260 to the range if the “gather” nets far fewer in the first place.

  10. Louie Cocroft Says:

I DIDN’T GET TO HEAR THE SHOW AT ALL–WILL IT BY ONLINE LATER?

  11. Louie Cocroft Says:

WHAT IS NEEDED IN THE BUREAU, APPARENTLY, IS SOME NEW YOUNG MEN–NOT SO STUCK IN OUTDATED WAYS OF THINKING, AND WILLING TO LISTEN TO WISE OLDER WOMEN.

  12. Eileen H Says:

Here is a reply I just received from http://www.blackbearpaperworks.com about their use of the word “feral” on the back of their greeting cards to describe wild horses:

Thank you for your email! I want to let you know that it was not my
intention to make any kind of derogatory statement regarding these
beautiful horses! I was using the term “feral” in the context
that they “exist in a wild or untamed state”, (quote from the dictionary.)

I was not aware that the BLM used this particular word with a negative connotation.

I appreciate your willingness to let me know and I will change the text upon next print.

    Thanks Again,
    Barbara
    barb@blackbearpaperworks.com

PS How did you come across my cards?

I was surprised by her willingness to correct this mistake. I wish everyone was this cooperative.

  13. Louie Cocroft Says:

    HOW ABOUT “WAR”–We’re Against Round-ups.

    • Karen L. Says:

Louie, I like both “WAR” and “MAMA”s as well.

Mar, Just a thought…if words such as “furious”, “mad”, and other emotional connotations are used, then aren’t we adding to the idea that this is an emotional issue only? The BLM and their supporters openly assert that the mustang support groups are just unrealistic and emotional and not fact-driven. I am angry, outraged, frightened, and sad all at the same time, but I know that the ANSWERS to these horses’ problems are LEGAL/POLITICAL. We want to appear knowledgeable, lucid, caring, and unwavering; but not overly emotional in order to have veracity and be taken seriously. (Laura Allen’s writings do a great job of illustrating this concept, I believe.) We need the demeanor of one of my favorite characters of all time, Atticus Finch, in “To Kill A Mockingbird”.

  14. Louie Cocroft Says:

I LIKE MAMA’S, TOO. HOW ABOUT MAMA’S GOING TO WAR–THAT’S WHAT THIS IS, AND THERE NOTHING MORE FEROCIOUS THAN A MOTHER FIGHTING FOR HER YOUNG.
