Challis Roundup Video

This is a youtube video on the  August 2009 Challis roundup- 12 horses killed, foals orphaned… and over 300 horses removed when the range was in the best condition in 80 years according to local residents. Cattle owned by a Hewlett Packard heir roam this same range. Click here to view the video.

This is a good video. The photos do not include any deaths and yet it is very powerful and the horses, so many running, are obviously being pushed hard by the helicopter. Do watch this. The older man who is interviewed is upset when he is told about the horses being removed. Very powerful. I have this at my blog. Glad it is here. mar

Margo, you have a great blog! Very well crafted! I checked it out awhile back. What was it you were saying a few days ago about polar bears getting protection???

      Thanks

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

JF, It was announced they were given at least a quarter million acres along the coast of Northern Alaska where they den and come ashore. Nothing can be done in this area to bother them. It is a great thing, but fragile, as we all know these things can be. I will look for the email. Mar

        Thanks, JF! mar

Someone mentioned in another blog post combining efforts. Could all of the orgs working to save the wild horse combine efforts when lobbying congress? The Western Wild Horse and Burro Association or something like that.

absolutely necessary and we are working on it. Last coalition Ginger set up in 1998 fell apart but at this time we can all agree on one thing very easily: out a moratorium on the roundups! thanks and please suggest any organizations you think would like to be a part of this call to stop the roundups. I have the major ones down but am still investigating other Animal welfare groups and EV groups that would sign on. All best Makendra

Don’t forget Craig Downer’s network I would imagine you already have but they probably go back a ways since he worked with Wild Horse Annie as a student. . .

Well, here it is November 1, 2009. Do we know where our horses in detention are? BLM computers don’t.

      • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Right, JF, and we want to know. Dang nabbit! mar

“Save Our Steeds” I can’t find that name on the web anywhere. Sounds like a good name.

WOULD IT BE BETTER TO LOOK TO THE EASTERN SENATORS FOR SUPPORT? NOT SO MUCH CONFLICT OF INTERESTS.

    • Marilyn Wargo Says:

Louie, Just educate them, too. Barbara is putting up some letters that will back educate and refute the BS. We need to tear down the myths and lies and give them real facts and public opinion. Yes, go for them, too. Mar

I’m always fearful of watching the videos. I keep the sound off, I can’t get the screaming of the horses out of my head. Thanks for letting us know the video is G rated. Its a good idea calling on the eastern states reps. I went to school with Steve Austria 7th district Ohio. I’m going to play the alumni card very soon! I also have friends in Louisville, I will try to get some intel on who the “friendlies” are in Kentucky. Will post to my facebook page as soon as I get any info. -Kathy

OHIO HAS 2 GREAT REPRESENTATIVES–DENNIS KUCINICH AND MARCI CAPTOR. WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY WERE SENATORS RIGHT NOW, BUT THEY PROBABLY ARE RIGHT WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.

    • Janet Ferguson Says:

That reminds me — on TV I saw a law professor, named Black, who was instrumental in the knock-down-drag-out of the S&L “back in the day.”
He wasn’t afraid to “take the heat”, was subject of lawsuits, the whole nine yards. A real warrior. I wonder if he would have insights into “ways and means” to go about tackling this mess.

  8. Louie Cocroft Says:

GEORGE KNAPP RETURNED AN E-MAIL. HE WOULD HAVE GINGER ON COAST TO COAST, BUT HE SAID IT ISN’T ENTIRELY HIS CALL. THE PRODUCERS NEED TO HEAR LOTS OF REQUESTS.

  9. Marilyn Wargo Says:

Needed, Lots of requests to Coast to Coast for Ginger as guest with George Knapp, appropriately!!! Mar

Got email from madeline pickens – they are doing a mustang show at the football game on november 19th – colorado at olkahoma and starts at 4:30 pm calif time on espn – sure afterwards the video will be posted to her website

are ginger and cloud members planning on making another trip to washington – this time PLEASE TAKE THE MUSTANGS – UNLESS YOU SHOW AMERICA WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR, THEY WONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT – HOW ABOUT SOMEONE TRUCKING MUSTANGS AROUND TO SHOW AMERICANS WHAT THEY ARE – TO LOCAL RODEOS, HORSE SHOWS, WHEREVER YOU CAN DISPLAY THE HORSE – madleine has the right idea, how about MUSTANGS AT THE SUPER BOWL?? you have got to get public exposure on the networks – what better way than to have mustangs in upcoming christmas and new year parades – and get those cloud videos, especially the last one, on animal planet for more people to see

Anybody wanting a resource to check # horses shipped from US to Mexico for slaughter, here it is. . . .there’s one for total (just keep scolling down the webpage) and then a chart for “to Mexico” from each border state (TX, NM, etc.)

I am sure they have a report for Canada, too. I have one that went back to Feb. 2009 from New Mexico that showed about 2000 + horses. (For one month).

Here’s the link — other places on the same website is more info and monthly reports, etc. (It looks at first like it is just veggies, grains, etc, but as you scroll down you get to the livestock portion)

  13. jan sterling Says:

were all those horses shipped to mexico mustangs or were some domestic horses – not that it makes it any better – is there now a halt on shipping horses to mexico and canada for slaughter
