Over 150 people crowded the sidewalk in front of wild-horse friendly Senator Feinstein’s office to ask for the Senator’s help in stopping the ongoing Nevada roundup and removal of over 2,500 american mustangs in the bitter cold and snowstorms of NW Nevada. The crowd was joined by some smaller representatives of our wild herds: Figaro, a miniature horse and Fluffy, a miniature donkey. A Mastiff joined the crowd that continued with a positive vibe for immediate change for over two hours. Protesters came from around the bay area and beyond to stand up for stopping what many are calling the “government sponsored cruelty and mismanagement of our wild horses and burros.”

Some maps of San Francisco are still around that show what the state looked like in the year of my birth, but they are in museum archives and very rare. Carbon dating has been used on these documents to prove their identity.

JANET–COOL!!! IF THERE HAD BEEN MORE TIME TO LET MORE PEOPLE KNOW, THERE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN A LOT MORE. DO YOU REMEMBER THE EARTHQUAKE IN “89″ AND HOW WELL THEY ALL HANDLED THE WHOLE ORDEAL? THERE ARE A LOT OF KINDRED SPIRITS THAT LIVE IN THE BAY AREA. MAYBE IT’S THE OCEAN AIR.

My sis was out there then – she thought her old car was causing all the trouble!!!! I was firmly ensconced in another major fault zone, and remain there to this day!!! (New Madrid) Enjoyed your comments!

John Martin from Missoula, Montana is familar with Calico Area.
Has helicopters in Reno could be used to keep BLM observed.
Weather conditions not great for flying.
Do not know what kind of help he can give on cost. Any volunteers for flying with cameras equipped to get close photos?

I just sent this to Craig Downer via email. Said, “You need to read this.” Maybe you will hear from Craig.

i looked at area for california – think the federal govt shd post largest population growth is always major cities and not out in the wilderness – we have san bernardino mts near me and more mts you hear about on the news because of fires but they mainly are not experiencing a huge population growth – its expensive to live there and you have to drive miles to work – that aside i live in desert area of apple valley, roy rogers hometown – we still have zillions of acres of open land – and i would assume nevada is the same way – more lies so govt can wipe out our wild horses and other wildlife – with the present administration in washington, maybe american people will finally wake up and realize WE ARE BEING LIED TO ABOUT EVERYTHING

AS FOR THE PRESENT ROUNDUP – PEOPLE PLEASE PRAY FOR SNOW AND REALLY BAD FLYING WEATHER
December 31, 2009 at 4:13 am |
I just read that a 20+ mare was euthanized today with a body condition index of 2 (poor). This was on the recommendation of the onsite veterinarian who determined it was unlikely that her condition would improve with better care. So the 73 horses were moved to Fallon on Tuesday and this poor gal was murdered. How did she manage to make it to the capture corrals with a body index of 2? I mourn her loss and the loss her family must feel with her gone. Damn them! There should be a “non biased” vet there as well for a second opinion-someone we can trust. The BLM website says the media was escorted the media to the gather site today. Where is the coverage? Anyone seen media coverage today?

I’ve been praying for bad flying weather or mechanical breakdowns. Or lightning from heaven smiting helicopters. I’m far away but with all the protesters in spirit. The wild horses belong to all Americans and so does the land they are on. The soundtrack from the movie Spirit has kept popping into my head since this started: You can’t take me and Where I belong…

Does anyone know of anyone I can hook up with in the Dallas Fort Worth area to get one started here? I have not been here long enough to even know where to do it at. At this point we’re getting ready to paint the windows on our car like they do for football teams.

I will contact the family I know there & see if they know anybody who you could contact — don’t know where THEY stand but they might know of people who might be interested. . .
Also RL Daum indicated earlier on the blog he is in TX but I don’t know whereabouts.

Laura,
I believe we could do an event at Carl’s Corner at Willie’s Place. I have contacted friends who are seasoned veterans with protests. They were active with the slaughter plant in Kaufman and other areas. They will give me their recommendation. Contact me locally
January 2, 2010 at 4:16 am
RJ, thanks. It took some asking to find out where Willie’s Place was but the good news I have some people lined up to attend. I will be in touch with you within the next day or so.

I didn’t count that many people yesterday. But heck I thought we had a pretty decent turnout–I only knew of this on Tues.
We did really well. A year ago Oakland demostrations for Oscar Grant ended in violence–and we showed how you can demostrate without violence.
In fact, the SF cop that was there the entire time (by law he has to on site) told me we were a peach to deal with. I think that is a huge compliment to all that were there. We made noise, we’ve been seen and slowly our voices will be heard.
December 31, 2009 at 5:36 pm |
Meanwhile up in the mountains we have per diem used at
http://www.soldiermeadows.com/html/rates.html
other costs such as
helicopter rates at $850 per flight hour and costs keep .
Of course these have not been confirmed yet.
December 31, 2009 at 6:02 pm |
THIS IS WHAT ALL OF OUR VETERANS FOUGHT FOR IN WWll. THEY GAVE SO MUCH SO THAT WE COULD HAVE THESE FREEDOMS–AFTER ALL, THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT. IN A STRANGE WAY, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE ALL FIGHTING FOR THESE ANIMALS, WE ARE ALSO FIGHTING FOR OUR OWN FREEDOM. THE COMPASSION DRIVES US, AS IT SHOULD, BUT THERE IS ALSO SOMETHING BIGGER AT STAKE.

that is what friends of mine have been saying – if the govt feels they can take away two of america’s most famous signs, the wild horse and the bison, what is next for them to destroy, evidently we will lose our freedoms too that we take for granted – they started with the horses because they thot no one would notice but as we have noted over the last 10 years or so we have lost a lot in this country, religious rights to display God in public places, so what makes people think other things wont be removed too -

The democratic process is not functioning if so many can stand up and address an issue only to be ignored by their president and to have form letters sent from their reps that are all identical. Bush Era and BLM tactics have hung on for what reasons exactly? Because it is expected that no one will interfere, not true, or because the people don’t really know what is good for them??? The Government is Not above us but OF US. The distance they put between us is Their Re election bids. Mar

I think one thing that all of us really want to promote is this: NON VIOLENCE. No jumping on cars or breaking windows. I know many of us are angry by what the BLM is doing. And I do understand those feelings. They shouldn’t be disputed. But I think the message we want to send is this: we want people to look to us and be able to identify with us. When all we do is shout and hurl insults–we make a total spectacle of ourselves. No one will want to listen to us. When we can discount by word and deed what the BLM is doing–our voices become that much stronger and forceful.
Let our voices continue to be heard! We are united by our love for our furry friends. Let them lead us.
One thing I noticed was our scruffy feeling Fuffy’s coat was in comparison to Figgy’s coat. But oh how socialized! In fact, Fuffy even goosed me! And Figgy kept giving me mini kisses. Ruppy (the mastiff) was HUGE. But oh how gentle.

January 2, 2010 at 4:45 am |
MARGARET, YOU ARE RIGHT ON. THE QUAKER PEOPLE KNOW THAT AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN A STRONG STAND AGAINST MISUSE OF AUTHORITY AND VIOLENCE–FOR GENERATIONS. I LEARNED A BIT ABOUT THEIR MOVEMENT RECENTLY AND ONE OF THE CORE PRINCIPLES OF THEIR BELIEF SYSTEM IS THAT EVERYONE BE OF THE SAME MIND AND ON THE “SAME PAGE”. WE ARE.
