Senate subcommittee which will be marking up bill.

Also below names there are list of resolutions, bills, etc. SB on there at end.

THE VERY FIRST ONE RES 221 I am unsure what that one is all about, but it has to do with wild horses and burros. I send email to Cloud foundation about it, asking whether was a good thing or not. . . .will look for more info. I do not think Reid (one of the three listed on the res 221 is really on “our” side????)

This link will take you to comments made by various committeemembers in past markup sessions regarding H.R. 1018. It reflects each person’s name, then their remark.

Tho this legislation was finally passed, these remarks give you an idea of some of the pros and cons discussed in the markup session, and by whom these remarks were made.

Last November (2008) a year’s respite was given the decision to euthanize all the 30,000 horses in gov’t holding pens.

That would seem to expire this November, 2009.

That means if H.R. 1579 isn’t brought to the senate floor AND PASSED that as America approaches the Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas holidays, these 30,000 horses will be systematically exterminated, while we are shopping for that “perfect turkey” and calling the Butterball Hotline.

Be sure to call, write, email and etc.

Maybe emergency legislation needs to be introduced for these 30,000 which will be wiped out in November 2009.

may I copy, paste, & cross post this?

      • Janet Ferguson Says:

you may copy anything you like as far as I am concerned.. . we you asking me?? sorry I took so long to reply.

Janet, has anything more been heard of regarding Madeleine Pickens and her offer to take all the mustangs the BLM has in those holding pens? From what I have read, despite her most generous offer that would solve the BLM having to euthanize those poor animals, they have turned her down, which is ridiculous. I was wondering if anything more has been heard about this or if any progress was being made in this direction?

I am not up to date but heard something about or read something on the web about how she would have needed some government assistance of some kind which she was unable to obtain???? Not sure! Perhaps her plan is viable, I just have no source and haven’t followed — keep looking for info, tho!

JF, Thanks so much… this is very scary for us all. This is the sort of bad move the government could make that would call for a big march on DC and possible confrontation over the passage of S1579. This is the worst thing. This is so important. Is there anyone who must be told about a move to euthanize who would be able to tell the public? To tell us? There seems to be no way to know unless there is a leak. BLM and the Interior department will look like they are insane if they try to do such a thing. It is insanity. Why would they do this? because the European Union won’t take the mares because of PZP? Are stallions in holding being gelded? Have they been given beut? Young horses not adopted or given any drugs could go to slaughter? What is really happening? Mar

JF Yes, I am glad there is someone who wants to take wild horses from BLM. I keep emailing the NR committee to move up S1579. I included your info this lst time about the possible date in November that BLM could begin to kill horses. I do not believe anyone wants this on their heads. I am hoping for support in Washington to grow and the committee to see the bill needs action now. Mar

I just watched the pbs special on Cloud & am stunned about this roundup of wild horses. It’s the 1960’s all over again & “Wild Horse Annie”. Unreal! Hard to believe we are going through this again. What is really behind the removal of these horses from their wild range…the cattle industry? why is the BLM concerned about removing what few wild horses remain? Seem like the cougars are doing a great job of wiping out new generations of wild horses, maybe they are are being paid by the BLM….just kidding! I’ll do everything I can to let people know about this & join our voices in protest. Thanks for all the work you all are doing in behalf of the wild horses.

  9. Leah Klocko Says:

I grew up reading about Wild Horse Annie and the horrible wild horse roundups where the horses were herded into trucks and taken to slaughter after being chased with helicopters. The stallions had giant tires on the ends of ropes tired around their necks. I was horrified. I thought all the horror had been stopped years ago. Now I know that it continues. I am joining the fight. I have always loved horses. I fell in love with Cloud last night….
